Are you interested in starting cello lessons for your child? We teach cello lessons to students 8 years and up. Like the violin and the viola, the cello is a member of the strings instrument family. Unlike the violin and the viola, though, and due to its larger size, the cello is propped upright when it’s played, supported between the cellist’s knees and resting upon his or her chest.
Because of its prominent use in classical music, the cello is one of the most instantly recognizable stringed instruments, and its versatility makes it a great instrument choice for students who are drawn to the idea of playing a stringed instrument. A favorite of pop musicians and film score composers, the cello’s deep, dark, and lushly resonant sound lends itself perfectly to multiple genres of music.
Because the cello does not have frets (unlike the guitar or the ukulele), training a young violist’s ear to recognize and replicate accurate pitch is of the utmost importance. We blend the Suzuki method (for ear-training) with the traditional method of note-reading and focus heavily on proper playing technique so that our students develop good habits and have all of the tools they will need in order to be successful as they learn to play the cello.
Whether you’re interested in a classical approach, learning pop covers, or a movie score fanatic, our teachers can help tailor a cello program to suit your interests! We offer cello lessons in Sherman Oaks to students of all ages. While we specialize in lessons for beginners, we offer intermediate and advanced level lessons as well.
